Required Education and Experience for Clinician - LMHP-E: Resident-in-Counseling

  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university in an applicable human services field and registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling for clinical supervision, working toward licensure.
  • One year experience working with identified population served preferred. Eligible to register as an LMHP-E with the Virginia Board of Counseling within three (3) months of hire.

Required Education and Experience for Clinician - LMHP: Licensed Counselor

  • Master's degree from an accredited college/university in an applicable human services field and licensure in the State of Virginia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist
  • One year program-specific work experience or relevant education, which indicates the individual possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Position Summary

The MST Clinician LMHP/LMHP-E provides multi-systemic therapy (MST) in home and community settings for youth ages 11-17 who have received referral for the treatment of behavioral or emotional problems by the juvenile justice, behavioral health, school, or child welfare systems. The position will conduct the initial assessment document individual's diagnosis/es, identify how service needs match the level of care criteria. The position will work collaboratively with the MST team to provide therapeutic interventions, crisis intervention, and care coordination in the individual's natural environment. Must be available for periodic on-call 24/7 to provide safety planning and crisis intervention. This position works under the clinical supervision of a licensed professional and will receive clinical supervision hours at no cost to the employee.

Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of family systems theory and application, social ecological theory and application, behavioral therapies theory and application, cognitive behavioral therapy theory and application, pragmatic family theories and application, child development research and its application in treatment, social skills assessment and intervention. Knowledge of community mental health and public health in order to provide advocacy and enhance an individual's treatment and access to community resources. Knowledge of the principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health, intellectual disabilities, and substance use.  Knowledge of and adherence to existing professional ethical standards. Knowledge of an adherence to licensure regulations related to services provided. Knowledge of and adherence to Horizon policies and procedures. Ability to analyze situations accurately and develop appropriate responses or techniques. Ability to communicate effectively in order to facilitate treatment and relay information to others as part of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to develop reports, create presentation and communicate findings to both internal and external audiences. Ability to perform clinical interviews in order to obtain information and to formulate appropriate treatment plans. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and to prepare written documents. Ability to respond effectively to changes in the work environment in a positive and professional manner. Ability to record data and complete documentation within established expectations and by communicated deadlines. Ability to work in and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holidays, etc.) as required. Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver's license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients, provide services to client at other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites; Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed. Ability to form and maintain effective therapeutic/counseling relationships with individuals, to monitor movement in the therapy process, and terminate the therapeutic relationship in appropriate ways.
