JOB SUMMARY:

MST is a highly effective and evidenced based treatment model directed at responding to and preventing antisocial or delinquent behavior in youth ages 12-17. MST therapists develop targeted interventions focused on empowering parents to address risk factors within the family, school, peer and community systems. MST is an intensive in-home therapy with a “whatever it takes” approach to partnering with parents and caregivers to keep youth at home, attending school and out of trouble with law enforcement. MST therapists draw heavily on structural, strategic and cognitive behavioral approaches, but also work creatively to address practical barriers to parent/caregiver effectiveness by connecting with community resources, working with schools or using dedicated funds to meet therapeutic goals. MST therapists work intensively (minimum 3 sessions per week) with a small caseload (3-6) of families and a team of 4 therapists that cover the 24/7 on call schedule on a rotating weekly basis (each therapist typically has 1 week of on-call per month). JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work in collaboration with Hennepin County DOCCR and HSPHD staff, MST team members and supervisors, family members, and schools.
• Provide clinically effective, family-based intervention designed to promote responsible behavior.
• Choose specific parenting interventions with the assistance of the MST supervisor and expert consultant.
• Work with family members establishing clear goals and actively work toward goals by focusing on solutions.
• Track the progress of treatment and measure success.
• Attend mandatory clinical supervision, consultation and training sessions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy or related degree from accredited school.
• Specific experience in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Structural and Strategic Family Therapy and behaviorally based substance use reduction models preferred.
• Solid mental health clinical training and experience, motivation, flexibility, and situational awareness.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability and willingness to provide home-based mental health services to parents/caregivers of youth aged 12-17 that are involved in the juvenile justice system or mental health case management and carry a caseload of four to six families.
• Available and willing to work creatively with families to meet throughout the week, including evening sessions when needed, as well as provide rotating on-call, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week coverage.
• Effective and confident communicator with multiple stakeholders including probation, school staff, case management as well as the family’s natural supports.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

• Valid MN driver's license, access to reliable transportation, clean driving record and meet the agency's driving requirements.
